Maternity style inspiration & must-haves for Fall

I can’t believe I’m already 19 weeks along with baby #2 – basically the half-way point given Oliver was born 2.5 weeks early and I’m bound to be early again! Craziness. As my bump grows (pics coming soon, I promise) I’m finding I have to put a lot more effort into looking and feeling good in my clothes…doesn’t make it easier that half of my wardrobe is in Florida at the moment, but that will be changing very soon!

Anyway, Autumn is my absolute favorite season, not only for the weather and beautiful scenery, but also for the fashion! I love whipping out my riding boots on that first crisp day and layering a leather jacket over a tee with a cute scarf. My maternity style is not going to be all that different from my regular style this fall, it’s just about being smart with the pieces you choose – making sure they fit and they’re comfortable. I find layering to be the key to achieving great style during pregnancy.

Here are some of my maternity looks (as you can see, Kristen Cavallari is my preggo mama idol):

1. Denim jacket over maxi

A great example of adding style with layering. It’s a great way to keep that summer maxi going into fall, and I love how the denim jacket and the leopard belt help accentuate the bump. So cute!

2. Leggings + ankle boots

Wow, can you say hot mama? I love this look because it is sexy, confident and believe it or not, super comfortable! I just substitute the super high ankle boots for some lower suede ones (pictured below) for a super practical and chic look.

3. Leather jacket + hot maternity jeans

There are so many options for maternity jeans these days (Target, Destination Maternity, designers like 7 for All Mankind, etc) that you can still look good in them through out your pregnancy. Love this rocker mom look!

4. Maxi dress + cropped top

Possibly my favorite look – so pretty and ethereal but also laid back. Jo Choy of Oh Joy! demonstrates many ways to wear a crop top in her awesome series “Dressing the bump.” Check it out!

5. Slouchy sweater + leggings + flats

For those days you can barely get out of bed, this does the trick. A good pair of leggings, classy flats, and a great slouchy sweater gives off the casual cool vibe with hardly any effort.

Now for my personal must-haves of the fall – none of these are actually maternity clothes because I don’t believe in buying maternity clothes for fashion. I just invest in a few basic maternity items including one pair of jeans, several leggings and a handful of tees & tanks and layer my wardrobe, favoring a lot of the flawy things.

The links to these items can be found on my Polyvore board.

Hope you enjoy my recommendations, and if you’re rocking a bump this fall like me, please let me know – what’s your favorite way to dress it?

My first Guest Blogger: Amy of Joey & the Owl

Given I am soooo busy with the move, I asked my blogger friend Amy of ‘Joey & the Owl‘ to write a guest post this week. She’s made an awesome beach picks board in honor of my move to the beach (and Summer); enjoy and please check out her amazing fashion & mommy blog! Now, I’m on my way to Cape Cod for some goodbyes, but will be back posting tomorrow with some very cool travel/decor posts!

Laura and I met at a hypno-birthing class, became friends on Facebook and after becoming mothers, caught up with each other on our blogs. I decided to create my blog Joey and the Owl after I had my son to have a little creative outlet for myself. The purpose of my blog is to share my trials and tribulations of being a new mother while inspiring other mothers through my love of fashion. My posts reflect my feelings, my experiences and things that I love such as fashion, beauty, styling and food. Here are my must haves and favorite things for the beach this summer. Enjoy and I hope you stop by sometime!
